How to Kickstart Your Fitness Journey

How to Kickstart Your Fitness Journey

Approaching exercise is a state of mind.

Exercise is a natural state of mind and body for humans. It's something our bodies crave because it taps into our evolutionary wiring, keeps us healthy, boosts our mood, and fosters mental clarity.

When done regularly, it helps maintain balance - physically, mentally, and emotionally. Even though we might not always feel like moving, the body generally responds well to exercise, and over time, it becomes easier to crave it as a natural part of life.

In fact, the more we move, the more we "train" our bodies and minds to enjoy movement. So, in a way, exercise isn't something the body has to do, it’s something the body wants to do for optimal well-being.

Its always easy to get motivated by following someone else. Here are some tips to get you started.

  1. Follow Online Workouts – Use your phone, tablet, or TV to access beginner-friendly workout classes. There are plenty of free or paid options, from yoga and pilates to high-intensity interval training (HIIT).

  2. Join Local Classes or Clubs – Look for beginner running groups, swimming lessons, tennis clinics, or community sports clubs. Exercising with others adds accountability and makes it more fun.

  3. Start Small and Consistent – Even short 10–15 minute workouts matter. Gradually increase the duration or intensity as you feel stronger.

  4. Set Achievable Goals – Focus on simple targets, like walking a certain number of steps daily, or completing a beginner workout three times a week.

  5. Mix It Up – Try different activities to keep things interesting. Switching between swimming, cycling, dancing, or team sports helps you find what you enjoy most.

  6. Track Your Progress – Use a journal, fitness app, or wearable device to see your improvements. It’s motivating to notice progress over time.

  7. Make It Social – Invite a friend to join you. Exercising with someone else makes it easier to stick with your routine.
